What is Lindy Hop?

The Lindy Hop is the original form of swing dance.  It was named by Shorty Snowden in 1927 at a Madison Square Garden dance marathon and became a craze in Harlem during the 1930's and 40's.  The Lindy Hop incorporates African rhythms and styling, European partnering elements, and is done to American music: swing jazz and jump blues.  Lindy Hop can be danced at a range of tempos and in a myriad of styles.
