New Move ... Shag Breaks
Please tell us what you think!
Note: This move is for Collegiate Shag. If you dont know Shag basics, consider buying our Shag CD-ROM of 20 Moves (or move to L.A.!)
This move replaces the double hop sections of the basic with a single slide leg out and hold. First, the footwork: leaders will lower their bodies slightly onto the left foot and slide the right leg straight in front of them with the right foot resting on the floor on 1, and hold there 2, and then switch to standing on the right foot and sliding the left leg straight in front of them on 3, hold there 4, switch feet 5, switch feet 6. (5 and 6 are as usual) Follows do almost the same in reverse, except that their sliding feet slide directly behind their bodies so that the sliding toe is resting on the floor.
The lead for this move is very important; if your follow misses the fact that you?re doing this, she?ll hop on two and bump your nose or your forehead. To lead breaks, lift your body and your lead arm up a bit on the ?and? count before the 1 you want to break on. This is the ?up? in preparation for the ?down? of the move. You don?t have to do this again on the 3. However, if you want to do two 6-count break patterns in a row, you?ll need to lead into breaks again for the second 6.
